About

The Planning Collaborative is an interactive online resource for learning about the range of tools, case studies, methods and practitioners that support land use planning, community development, and ecosystem-based management. Each of the Tools, Case Studies, Methods, and Practitioners tabs is searchable and can be filtered by location, process, and field.

The Planning Collaborative was developed by PlaceMatters with support from the Surdna Foundation, the Orton Family Foundation, the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, and the Funders' Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities.

The Tools section of the site is a conversion of PlaceMatters' longstanding Smart Growth Tools Database, which has been updated and integrated with the Ecosystem-Based Management Tools Database in partnership with the Ecosystem-Based Management Network. This integration was part of the Bridging the Divide program, a partnership between PlaceMatters and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, that is working to better integrate land use planning, public participation, and ecosystem-based management tools.
