A small Georgia foundation working to promote and improve the vibrancy of Georgia’s cities and towns.
Activities
Georgia NGO works around the motto “Georgia Cities… the Heart and Soul of Georgia.” The Foundation primarily works through a revolving loan fund, which finances capital revitalization projects in downtown areas. The Foundation also publicizes and highlights success stories and innovations in planning, including real estate acquisitions, parks and green space protection, and building rehabilitations.
Relevant Project(s)
- Heart and Soul Bus Tour brings state legislators and other leaders to several cities highlighted for their efforts to create vibrant downtowns and promote Georgia culture. The tour visits different cities each year.
- Heart and Soul Newsletter highlights many similar efforts and focuses on planning.
- Georgia Theater Network was created by the Foundation to support and promote historical downtown theaters throughout Georgia. The Network supports special productions and encourages communities to use theaters creatively and make them part of a comprehensive revitalization strategy.
