The Sustainable Communities Network (SCN) connects organizations across the country that are working for sustainable development, Smart Growth, community building, progressive government, and natural resource protection. SCN is administered by a small group of founding partner organizations, and exists primarily in the form of a website.

SCN’s offerings are nearly all in the form of resources and connections on the website. Important sections include:
- Creating Community section lists organizations, resources, and tools relating to visioning, inventories and indicators, civic engagement, conflict resolution, and building partnerships.
- Case Studies from across the country detail examples of communities successfully pursuing sustainability in the areas mentioned above.
